It's been awhile.
In a bid to get out of a rut and a self-inflicted writer's block (otherwise known as inertia to start on work) I decided to come here and type things out that hopefully I won't regret come tomorrow morning (or say, two years down the road).
Things that have been occupying my headspace recently consist mainly of work, food and God (not necessarily in this order) and I've been preoccupied by the need to declutter my life and mind to focus on the things that really matter.
Not too long ago, I made a promise to be present in each moment, and I guess I haven't been great at keeping to my word. More often than not, I am thinking of what's ahead or wondering whether I could have changed things in the past. The thing about the present is that it can sometimes be so intangible and fleeting, and a missed moment is missed forever. Sigh
So yes, at the end of the day, what can we bring back? What do you want your life to be known for?
I read an article that day, and the person said her goal in life was to be an encourager. I think that's an interesting aim. Sometimes we tie our lives to closely to things we do professionally, but that's not what life is all about right?
To speak life, to be encouraging, to be the difference in a world that insists on conformity - these are the things that really, truly matter. The things that last way beyond the length of your days and mine.
I once heard a sermon and one quote stood out to me: "How do you change the world? One life at a time."
I guess somewhere along the way I forgot, and it became about "What can you change about yourself?"
The thing about pre-occupation with self is that it takes your focus off, and leads you to magnify things that really aren't that big a deal. In the end, it throws you off course, and then one day you take those fish-eye lenses off and see things as they really are. And it's flabbergasting :P
Here's to recalibrating, and focusing on the things in life that matter :)
