Cursory Cursive Thoughts
I have mentioned before how I love writing and words because they can be so beautiful and precious.
While the above applies to all forms of writing (pen and paper, keyboard and screen etc), there is something extra special about taking the effort to pen down something. For this reason, I always handwrite my notes and cards because I believe there is no better way than that to convey one's sincerity.
Recently, I've been experimenting with a different style of writing - one that I had gotten out of touch with after Primary 3. I finally dragged myself to buy myself some calligraphy supplies (nibs, holder, pot of ink) and got acquainted with the art of calligraphy.
Although I've never properly trained myself in calligraphy (should I get a book to practise?), I thank my Primary school's insistence on learning penmanship that I could still pen down some stuff that did not look too bad, at least in my opinion. Feel free to let me know where I can improve please!
I really love the whole experience of dipping the nib into the ink, patiently penning down a few letters and repeating the process again. It somehow forces you to slow down and really ponder about each stroke and each letter and each word you are writing. Also, lessons on kerning are inbuilt because one needs to think about how to space the letters so that they look good as a whole.
Here's to more words and less ink spills hopefully ;)
