I took the image above as I was testing out my new camera, and the fairy lights in my room lent themselves as a perfect opportunity to try out some bokeh shots.

I was quite excited upon seeing the results, although it took quite a bit of guesswork to figure out the right settings. Nevertheless, trying the camera out proved to be useful when I went to Sydney later on and took some images of the pretty, pretty city lights.

Having been fascinated with light, I was really glad to have the chance to capture those moments. It's funny how when light shines into the dark, everything becomes a blur, and the only thing in focus are the beams of light. Darkness is defined as the absence of light, and where light shines, there can be no darkness.

In the bible is says that Jesus IS light, and He has come to bring light into every area of darkness, be it in our lives, or even on a macro level, in the world. Light brings clarity, it propels vision, and eradicates darkness. Light wins, all the time.

Fix Cafe, located at the Hometeam NS-Jom clubhouse in the Novena/Balestier area, features some of the best fish and chips around in my opinion.

The chill-out, alfresco vibe there makes it ideal for a quick catch-up with friends, or a getaway for something different offered by the million other hipster cafes in the island.

With the work-house themed decor, right down to the the lightbulbs, the cafe also gives off a no-frills feel, and invites you to pay attention to the food instead.

The menu, though small on variety, is big on taste, and the mainstay are the naanwiches. What? I hear you asking. Naanwiches are an interesting fusion of the north indian staple and interesting toppings such as kimchi and beef, and smoked turkey and ham.

All naanwiches come with a side of nachos :)

Personally, I'm not a fan of fusion anything, but the naanwiches were decent, and the poached egg on top was runny, just the way I like :)

The 3-cheese penne gratin, ordered by my sister, was a creamy affair, oozing with cheese in every bite. As a cheese-lover, I thought it was perfect.

Starters such as the soy drumlets are a must try as well. The drumlets give 4-fingers a run for their money, I'd say. However, my mum found it a tad salty, so I guess the consistency can be improved? No pictures cos I was too busy stuffing my face.

One main gripe I have is the small size of the plates there. Sure, it's cafe food, but really, eating the naanwiches is a challenge when the plate is the same size as your food.

I did not try their desserts on my second visit, but the place is also known for their Liu Sha donuts. Salted egg and donuts - what's there not to love?

After 2 rounds at the cafe, I think I want to check out Fix Grill, the cafe's sister restaurant, for some real food ;)
